Over the past 10 years there has been a rise in what product designers call “Industrial Style”. This is a strong indication furniture sellers will find a promising market for products that are used in Industrial Style interior design - but what exactly does Industrial Style mean? This is a quick guide for you to think about adding an industrial touch to your product category.

Elements of Industrial Style

One the most obvious features of Industrial Style space is the texture of the décor. As the essence of industrial design is taking something old and infusing it with a new purpose, designers prefer to expose the architecture features of the building itself, which means the brick wall, cement ceiling, steel columns and hardwood floors are mostly left undecorated. Therefore, when choosing decorations for industrial space, materials (i.e., wood, metal, and leather) that match the bare bones of the building are highly recommended. 

Wood  When putting together an industrial space, the wood used does not need to be new, in fact, antique timber or reclaimed wood is more likely to convey a more personal “industrial” taste.	Metal  The combination of metal and wood is at the core of Industrial Style. Furniture that mixes these two materials is not only sturdy for a lifetime of use, but also contributes to the stylish look of industrial space.	Leather  If you don’t want to make your guests feel cold or impersonal, leather contributes to making a place warm, cozy and inviting.

Colour Palette

Although the selection of texture and materials are key for places with Industrial Style, the choice of colour cannot be ignored. To complement the exposed texture of floors and walls, neutral colours are great choices for home décor, including grey, brown, black and white. Still not sure which colour to choose? Remember, Minimalism is the best friend of Industrial Style. So, try to keep your color palette as simple as possible. However, it does not mean you cannot drop in some vivid color. When it comes to small items like mugs or pillows, using bright colors will bring some vibrancy to your place.
